Snow Daze

While so many in the nation are suffering from the extreme cold temperatures and unusual levels of snowfall... Tom and I have been embracing the weather this year.

True, the reason we accept winter's sentence with Zen-like acceptance, is due to the fact that Tom owns his own sled this year.  However, there is another factor that is playing into our euphoria... mostly we have rediscovered one-another.

In the way-way-back, our courtship began with the snowmobile.  Ok, our first meeting began with a motorcycle, but it wasn't until I encountered Tom again in the Monticello Snowmobile club tent at the Ozaukee County Fair later that summer, that I fell smitten.

Sounds all too hick doesn't it?  Eh, that's the way we roll here in Wisconsin.  So this winter, as we careen over mounds of snowbanks, and scream across freshly groomed fields, in reality these journeys are taking us back to memories of our youth.

The advantage of being older this time around is that I'm enjoying the beauty of my surroundings.  It has added immeasurably to the my enjoyment of the trip.  I find myself thankful that I can see and be surrounded by so much majestic nature.  It is beauty you would not otherwise experience unless you were traveling by sled.  How fortunate are we?

I didn't get a lot of photos of from the trail, for several reasons - but the strongest one being I could have never been able to capture the beauty of the snow on the pines, and golden orange sunlight setting their tops a blaze.  However, here are our Kodak moments of the trip.

Tom's ready to go sledding.

Our winter wilderness cottage for the weekend.

Sun sets the trees afire with its glow... so beautiful.

Wide open trails through thick woods.
Well marked trail systems, just like roads for automobiles.
In spite of well marked trails... we STILL get lost.
Winter wonderland all to ourselves.
Nature approved.  Golden sunlight sets the snow aglow with sparkles.
