Abandoned Beauty Found in Woods

This weekend, Tom and I afforded ourselves the pleasure of riding the snowmobile trails near our home.  We traveled through Nabob, Kohlsville, along the expanse of Big Cedar Lake in Wisconsin.

What was particularly interesting about this ride, is the unique perspective you get of the homes, farms and wooded acreage along the route.  At times the trail runs alongside a county road, and at others is takes you on a dog-leg across the snow-drifted hills of a vast field.

The part of the route I enjoyed best was the trail that ran in a twisted serpentine through a stand of woods. The snowmobile trails in our area reside on private land.  Most of the landowners are farmers, and many of the farms are separated by small stands of trees, or a creek.  The local snowmobile clubs work together to make the trails safe, interesting for the sportsmen, and protective of the landowners' property.

I captured these photographs of two abandoned automobiles we discovered along our route - hidden deep in the woods.  The snowmobile trail takes you right by their rusting frames, reminding you that beauty is sometimes discovered when you have a rare perspective.  Any other season and you would not have stumbled upon them, as they would have been camouflaged by foliage, or too far from the road to be seen.  The fact that we had a little sunshine to illuminate them helped.

I wonder if the farmer remembers these cars are out here?  I wonder who they belonged to?  I wonder what they looked like in their prime?
