Cocoon
Not sure why it's always a surprise when we arrive in January and the temperature drops below zero degrees Fahrenheit. In other words - it's freaking, booger-freezing cold here!
The dog can walk on top of the snow drifts without sinking in. This is beneficial for getting places in the yard and the poop doesn't sink below the surface (for easy pick-ups), but an it can be an issue when the snow melts.
The dog goes bounding out onto a drift only to sink in past his ears. My husband and I crack-up every time when he emerges from a slushen drift, coughing snow through is nose, looking surprised, unable to comprehend what just happened.
I'm not complaining about the weather. Oh no... I never complain about the weather because I like it in all its forms. It is God and a reminder that we're only human and really in control of nothing. It reminds me that every day is a different one and every drop of rain feeds life. Wind carries music from the trees and fragrances and soil from thousands of miles away.
While the cold can be bitterly painful on the hands and cheeks, it places us in suspension of time... slowing it down while our bodies rejuvenate and prepare for our awakening in spring.
Tonight I'll cocoon in my bed, reading books (or blogs) and sleep. Soon spring will be here and with it warmth and life will return.
