Bad start but welding leads to good ending

After starting the day by slicing my finger with a sharp kitchen knife and discovering I made a BIG mistake that will cost us a little change to fix (at work)... I finally had something go right - welding.  I finished the project from my welding class. Behold my first piece of hand-made lawn art.  Thanks to Marlene (of Marlene's metals) who loaned us the idea and template to start.  Also thanks to Kory my instructor for taking the time to replace, (count them), four contact tubes for me.  It was like Eliza Doolittle - I finally GOT IT!  I now understand the wire, arc, and what to look for in the molten weld.  Whew!  I've got two classes left, and Lori gave me a few ideas, a "do in a class" type project.  Can't wait!  PS:  It was 76 degrees outside (in March), and even hotter in the welding booth.  This was literally made with sweat, blood and a few tears.  More photos on the Arts and Crafts page.
