American "can do" spirit is exhausted but still thrives

Hold that tiger!... familiar as the slogan for the Tucker automobile but symbolic of the American "Can Do!" spirit.  Last evening I volunteered at an event to raise money for a woman who sends "care packages from home" to troops overseas.  She's remarkable and put together 40,000 care packages last year.  The wine and food tasting was in a antique auto museum and as I poured samples for patrons, I marked a similarity between the dozens of volunteers, the benefactor and the American auto makers whose examples of their former ingenuity surrounded me.  Each share the same "can do" spirit.  It takes a lot of work to reach our goal, whether that's putting together an event, addressing boxes or designing an automobile that's not just a ride, but a luxurious dream; it requires passion, effort and dedication.  Yes, we who "can do" are exhausted, but as long as the spirit is still alive in us, the world will be a better place for it.
